2020 End of Year Round Up

Posted December 27, 2020

At the beginning of the year I set out some goals for myself, realistic goals that would progress me to where I want to be in life.

This year has been a lot of ups and downs, making huge progress in my hobbies, health and career.

Without wasting any time, let's get in to my resolutions / goals for 2020.

Learn to Ollie a Skateboard

Though not as confident as I hoped to be, I've made huge progress in skating and learnt to Ollie finally - as well as some other tricks and generally become a more confident skater.

While trying to achieve this, I broke a set of trucks and had to replace them - thankfully.

After achieving this, I finally upgraded my setup to my dream board.

Learn a Song All The Way Through on Guitar

Finally, I managed to do this with Rage Against The Machine - Killing In The Name Of.

Learn to Drive 👎

I learnt to drive, though I didn't get the opportunity to do my test due to COVID-19.

Form a Band ✅

Towards the beginning of the year, I formed a band and made some great friendships doing this. We're yet to find our feet but you can follow us to hear some music when we do.

Write a Song on Guitar 👎

I didn't quite manage this to the extent I intended, but I did write some great riffs and put together my first piece that sounded the way I set out for it to.

Post Progress on Instagram Monthly ✅

I didn't manage to stick to the monthly part, but it was definitely something in my head and changed the way I use the platform.

I did manage to upload well over 12 videos of my progress, so in a way - I achieved exactly what I wanted.

Learn to Sing 👎

I feel I'm not quite there yet, but I've made progress and become more comfortable with my voice.

Learn to Scream ✅

Though my technique isn't quite there, I've made good progress in screaming vocal techniques.

Attend 12 Live Events 👎

COVID-19 - enough said. I had enough to go to and plans - but non of them could happen.

Summary

Though I didn't manage them all, it's some great progress especially when coupled with the difficulties this year has presented.

Out of the 9 that I set, I managed to do 5 of them. I failed 4, though only 2 were within my control.

Total:
✅ 5
👎 4 (2 due to COVID-19)

I believe the most important lesson that I learned this year is to take more pictures. After my best friends passing in August, I realised we had very few pictures together and there's nothing I can do about that. In 2021, I'll be taking a ridiculous amount of photos with my friends and I encourage you to make that one of your goals for the new year too.

Thank you to my friends who supported me in any way this year, even if it's just as little as dropping me a message - it meant a lot.

Catch you next year.
